How convenience store owners can generate revenue from advertising

Your store already has the two things advertisers pay for: traffic and surfaces. How in-store advertising revenue works, what a managed network handles for you, what you stay in control of, and how to join.

Every convenience store owner has been asked to put up a poster for the pizza place next door. Most say yes, for free, and think nothing of it — but that poster is the small end of something larger. The window, the cooler doors, the counter, the floor and the screen are advertising inventory, and local businesses will pay to be on them. The question is how to earn from that without turning yourself into a media salesperson.

What you already own

Advertisers pay for two things: an audience and a place to reach it. A convenience store has both. Your regulars come in several times a week, they live nearby, and they stand at your counter with time to read. That's why the corner store is such a valuable advertising location — more valuable, per visit, than most media a local business can buy.

Two ways to earn from it

Sell it yourself

You can approach local businesses directly, agree a price for a poster or a counter card, print it, put it up and invoice. It works, and some owners do it. The trouble is everything around the sale: finding advertisers, agreeing sizes and positions, chasing artwork, printing, installing, swapping it out, and doing all of that again next month. For one store the revenue rarely justifies the time.

Join a managed network

A retail media network sells your surfaces alongside many other stores, as standardized placements, to advertisers who want reach across a neighbourhood or a region. The network finds the advertisers, designs and produces the creative, installs it, photographs it, reports on it and pays you your share. You keep running the store. This is how Sav works — here's the full picture.

What a managed network handles

  • Advertiser acquisition. Sav sells the media; you never pitch anyone.
  • Standard placements. Sizes, positions and materials are fixed, so nothing arrives that doesn't fit your store.
  • Creative and production. Artwork is designed or checked to spec and printed by the network.
  • Installation and swaps. Placements are installed, photographed for proof, and replaced when a campaign ends.
  • Measurement and reporting. QR codes and promo codes attribute response to your store; advertisers see it in a report, which is what brings them back.
  • Payment. Participating locations receive their agreed share of the campaign revenue that runs in their store, on a schedule.

What you stay in control of

The store is yours. Before anything runs you set the standards: categories you won't carry, surfaces you'd rather keep clear, anything that doesn't fit your customers. Campaigns are booked within those rules. The point of a network is to bring you advertising that improves the store — a well-designed cooler cling looks better than a taped-up flyer — not to cover every inch of it.

Why the network makes each store worth more

A single store can sell a poster. A network can sell a campaign: the same creative across every store in a neighbourhood, or across a region, booked and reported together. Larger campaigns are worth more to advertisers, which means more campaigns run in each participating store. Every store that joins makes bigger campaigns possible and every campaign makes membership more valuable. Sav launched across Savage Cloud locations as its founding retail network, and is open to independent stores, other chains and gas bars — see where it stands today.

What joining involves

  1. Apply. Tell us about your store and the surfaces you have — two minutes on a phone.
  2. Talk. We review the location, discuss the surfaces and agree the terms for your store.
  3. Go live. Your store appears on the network map and becomes bookable. The first campaign is installed and photographed; you receive your share when it runs.

Fair questions

Does it cost anything to join?

No. Joining is free. Sav earns when campaigns run, and participating stores receive their agreed share of that revenue.

Do I have to accept every campaign?

No. You set the standards for your store and Sav books within them.

I'm not part of a chain. Can I join?

Yes. Independent stores, small chains and gas bars are all welcome. Savage Cloud is the founding network, not a requirement.

How much will I earn?

It depends on your store's surfaces, traffic and how many campaigns run there, so we don't publish a figure. The revenue share is agreed per location before anything runs.
